Shell & Slate Go Stones
50% discounts for sets of extra-thick stones

In order to reduce their stock of thick shell & slate go stones, one manufacturer of these stones has offered Kiseido special prices. Kiseido is therefore able to offer extraordinary discounts for sets of extra-thick shell and slate stones (11.6 to 12.8 mm) at a 50% discount from our regular prices. As a bonus, we are including a set of extra-large keyaki go bowls, big enough to hold these stones, at no extra charge. The golden brown color of these keyaki bowls makes a perfect match with the color of the traditional kaya boards. Airmail shipping and handling are included in the price.

The white stones are classified into three grades: yuki, tsuki and jitsyo. The yuki stones have many clear grains which run straight across the top, the tsuki stones have fewer grain lines, while jitsuyo stones have either irregular or indistinct grain patterns.

Because of their weight, color, grain, responsiveness when placed on the board, and their pleasant feel, shell and slate stones are the perfect aesthetic match to kaya boards.

The black stones in these sets are made from nachiguro slate mined in Wakayama prefecture, Japan. The white stones are made from clam shells harvested in Mexico.

The image on the right shows the grain pattern and color of yuki stones.

B214: Table Go Board (Kaya 5cm)     $1,000+ $900 ¥96,000

Golden yellow Kaya is the perfect wood for go boards, neither too hard nor too soft. It is superior in their color and brightness to other kinds of wood used for go boards. The golden-yellow color of these boards mellows with age, and, when struck with a stone, a lively click is produced. The kaya table boards offered here are made of up to four pieces of wood, joined together and finished by master craftsmen. Their surfaces all have the highly-prized masame grain that runs straight across the top of the board.
